Throwback Thursday 7 May 2020 - Grace Davies

Following on from last week's images of child performers in panto, we received a message from Grace Davies, who performed in 3 Millfield pantos, before pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. Here is Grace's story:

I’m Grace and the Millfield has been a huge part of my life since the age of 2.

I started dancing with Suella Performing Arts at the age of 2 where I starred in my first show at the Millfield. I knew from then that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I auditioned to be part of Aladdin in 2009 and was so grateful to get through. I loved it so much I took part in Jack and the Beanstalk 2010 and finally Beauty and The Beast 2011. I was lucky enough to have my sister perform along side me in 2011 too!

My mum always supported us and loved watching my sister and I perform. She took this opportunity to gain her chaperone licence and help out backstage. It’s clear that we all love this industry and certainly loved the Millfield.

My granddad was my biggest supporter and was front row at every show I was in. He was often spotted at Millfield and Dugdale shows. He loved the theatre and he was my hero, who inspired me to dance.

I then went on to performing arts college where I got a diploma and my teaching qualifications. I left college and became a red coat at Butlins and began teaching, along side all my performing work. I then decided to gain my chaperone licence too.

This lead onto chaperoning shows for the BBC, ITV and the Easter panto at the Dugdale in 2017 & 2018. Along side chaperoning the children, I also assisted in teaching them the routines. This was an honour as I love being part of the pantomimes.

My career has taken me all over the world. From performing in hotels abroad, to cruise ships, music videos, performing at the Hammersmith Apollo and much more. I’m so grateful as the Millfield was my stepping stone and inspired me to dance forever.

A big thank you to Grace for sharing your Millfield story.
