Several support and network groups as well as educational classes for adults and children run in these rooms. However, there’s more than what meets the eye when it comes to Millfield House…

  • Millfield House was built in the 18th Century before being sold to be turned into a school for London workhouse children.
  • The school grew to over 400 students, with the boys learning tailoring, shoe making and carpentry while the girls were taught housework, needlework and laundering.
  • The school was closed in 1913 and then housed Belgian refugees during the First World War.
  • The house was converted into the St David's Hospital for Epileptics in 1915.
  • The London Borough of Enfield acquired the house in 1971, renovating and demolishing many of the extensions and exterior buildings, leaving the house that stands today and adjacent lodge by the entrance.
